Langfang Civil Air Defense Project

The underground civil air defense project of Langfang Cultural Park is located on the new cultural axis of Langfang City, extending from the Cultural Park to the north to the Grand Theater. Combined with the east-west art avenue, it becomes a new cultural core together with the surrounding libraries, art museums and stadiums.

The project brings people from the ground into the sunken square through a set of annular ramps. As a civil air defense project, its usual functions are mainly youth science and technology activities and urban exhibition halls, which are deeply integrated with the cultural park and become a thickened urban landscape space. It actively feeds back the surrounding communities and schools, and under the influence of China’s “double reduction” policy, it has become a new place for after-school activities for young people in the city.

The design of the sunken courtyard and ground entrances and exits of the project adopts light structure and environmentally friendly materials. The green landscape on the roof and the application of low-carbon energy-saving measures in the garage have changed the impression of the civil air defense project being closed and heavy and high energy consumption, becoming the first zero-carbon technology project in Langfang.

Driven by the flow of people on the ground and underground, the formation of a nebula-like “vortex” contains young people’s free yearning to stare at the starry sky and explore future mysteries.
